About Michael Chameides

Elected Official and Communications Professional

I create human-focused solutions. I have designed and built databases, developed governance plans, launched new initiatives, and established operations systems. No matter how complex the solution, success always relies on the same thing: people. With a broad skill set and subject matter experience, I advocate for stakeholders and collaboration.

I’m passionate about supporting people in small cities and rural counties to build political power and create local solutions. I’m serving my third elected term on the Columbia County Board of Supervisors, where I’m also the Deputy Minority Leader. I’ve led effective initiatives to improve public transit, establish affordable housing, and secure grant funds to benefit my constituents.

As the Rural Democracy Communications Director, I work with rural leaders across the country to engage communities and advocate for meaningful policy. I previously served as the City of Hudson Mayoral Aide and Operations Director at Kite’s Nest. I have a Master’s Degree in Media Studies from The New School and have received artist grants from the New York State Council on the Arts, Puffin Foundation, and New York Foundation for the Arts.

I recieved the 2023 Hudson Valley Area Labor Federation Friend of Labor Award. In 2022, the Columbia County Sanctuary Movement recognized my effective advocacy for immigrants and named me a 5th Anniversary Honoree.
