No on $115,000 Airport Expansion

I voted against purchasing the Colarusso parcel

February 14, 2018

At the February 14, 2018 Board of Supervisors meeting, I voted against the $115,000 purchase of a parcel owned by Kathleen Colarusso. The parcel is adjacent to the airport. The Board’s hope is the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will reimburse our costs in the future. It’s not clear to me if the FAA will or will not reimburse our costs. Even if they do reimburse our costs, we are still losing the property tax revenue. Prior to the vote, I heard many concerns from constituents about this proposal. At the time of the vote, the Board had not made an effective justification for this purchase. I’m not convinced the benefits will outweigh the costs, and I voted no.
