Supporting Immigrants in Our Community
Our neighbors and friends need basic rights, protections, and opportunity
September 8, 2021
I’ve been a consistent and effective advocate for immigrants in Columbia County. I’ve worked closely with Columbia County Sanctuary Movement and directly impacted communities to advocate for solutions.
I helped lead a successful campaign to end County cooperation with deportations. Prior to the county campaign, I helped lead the Hudson campaign. But our local government policies aren’t enough — that’s why I joined with elected officials from around the state to advocate for statewide solutions.
Excluded Workers Fund
I supported the successful campaign for providing funds to excluded workers. Above you can watch my speech at the Columbia County Sanctuary Movement Press Conference. I start at the 6:30 mark.
Driver’s Licenses
I’ve long advocated for equal access to Driver’s Licenses. I helped lead Hudson support of the Green Light Campaign, the first municipality in New York State to pass a supportive resolution. Once the law passed statewide, I worked with Columbia County and the Columbia County Sanctuary Movement on a successful implementation.
Equal Access to Public Space
Going back to 2009, I advocated for equal access to public spaces and the right to play soccer in a public park.
Pathway to Citizenship
I joined with elected officials across the country to support the We Are Home Campaign. Congress and the White House must ensure that all immigrants - Dreamers, TPS holders, and essential workers are included in all Build Back Better economic recovery legislation.
