Supporting Immigrants in Our Community
Our neighbors and friends need basic rights, protections, and opportunity
February 1, 2025
Trump should lower costs, raise wages, and improve necessities like healthcare and housing. But instead, he is attacking immigrants in our community. That’s why I joined with 100 other elected officials on a Public Rights Project legal brief to oppose his unconstitutional attempt to end birthright citizenship. I also joined elected officials from around the state to advocate for statewide protections.
I’ve been a consistent and effective advocate for immigrants in Columbia County. I’ve worked closely with the Columbia County Sanctuary Movement and directly impacted communities to advocate for solutions. I helped lead successful campaigns to end County cooperation with deportations, and a similar City of Hudson campaign. The Columbia County Sanctuary Movement recognized my effective advocacy for immigrants and named me a 5th Anniversary Honoree.
Excluded Workers Fund
I supported the successful campaign for providing funds to excluded workers. Above, you can watch my speech at the Columbia County Sanctuary Movement Press Conference. I start at the 6:30 mark.
Driver’s Licenses

I’ve long advocated for equal access to Driver’s Licenses. I helped lead Hudson support of the Green Light Campaign, the first municipality in New York State to pass a supportive resolution. Once the law passed statewide, I worked with Columbia County and the Columbia County Sanctuary Movement on a successful implementation.
Equal Access to Public Space
Going back to 2009, I advocated for equal access to public spaces and the right to play soccer in a public park.
Pathway to Citizenship
I joined with elected officials across the country to support the We Are Home Campaign and Refugees Resettlement Program.
